Anne Fischer
Dr. Anne Fischer is Chief Technologist for the Deep Science and Enterprise Science Funds at Intellectual Ventures (IV). As part of the Fund leadership team, Dr. Fischer oversees and empowers IV personnel pursuing high-risk research that exploits novel chemistry, physics and materials for disruptive commercial opportunities. A trained chemist, Dr. Fischer joined IV in 2022 to apply her extensive experience developing, managing, and transitioning high-impact research for national security and commercial applications to the Funds.
Prior to joining IV, Dr. Fischer served as Deputy Director of the Defense Sciences Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), overseeing experts investing in fundamental and applied research for transformational advances across the physical and social sciences. She came to this leadership position after serving as a Program Manager at the Agency for several years, where she led the development of approaches to accelerate innovation in the chemical sciences, including the development of automation and AI capabilities for small molecule production and discovery, molecular-scale data storage and computing, and distributed pharmaceutical manufacturing. Her work at DARPA led to demonstrated impacts including new capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community, private sector investment, startups, and commercial products. Earlier in her technical career, Dr. Fischer served as a senior-level science advisor to multiple organizations across areas including materials science, chemistry, and mathematics, completed an American Association for the Advancement of Science policy fellowship at the National Science Foundation and was awarded a National Research Council postdoctoral research associateship at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Dr. Fischer graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s in chemistry from the College of Wooster and earned her doctorate in chemistry from Michigan State University.
