Alison Brown

Alison Brown, PhD, is the President and CEO of NAVSYS Corporation, which she founded in 1986.X She grew up in Edinburgh Scotland and studied engineering at Cambridge University. She received a Draper Fellowship and Dupont Scholarship to attend MIT where she graduated with an MS in Aeronautics and Astronautics. She then worked at Litton as a systems engineer, developing early GPS and inertial navigation systems, while attending UCLA where she received a PhD in Mechanics and Aerospace.

The Laboratory focuses on advanced technology development and system prototyping for national security needs. Laboratory-sponsored programs include work for the military services and other government agencies, such as the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Laboratory has 4000 employees whose backgrounds include electrical engineering, physics, mathematics, and computer science.

She is a fellow of the Institute of Navigation, an Honorary Fellow of Sidney Sussex College and a member of the Defense Science Board. She is a Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction, a Master of Foxhounds and founder of the Tri-Lakes and Salida Business Incubators supporting rural economic development. She was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering for her contributions to research and development of precision navigation and timing technologies.
